Why a hair strainer matters
Hair is the number one cause of slow shower drains. The built-in strainer catches it before it reaches your pipes, so cleaning is a quick lift-and-rinse job instead of a call to the plumber.
Installation tips
- Connect the ABS base to the 2" outlet pipe with the correct cement.
- Set the base height so the grate sits just below the finished tile.
- Slope the floor toward the drain on all sides.
- Fit the strainer and grate after tiling and grouting.
Choosing the size
At 5-3/4", this drain gives a larger collection area than a 4" drain, which helps with higher-flow showers.
Care
Remove the grate with the lifting key, lift out the strainer, rinse and replace.
For a smaller drain, see the Bisman 4"x4" stainless floor drain.
Frequently asked questions
Why choose a drain with a hair strainer?
It catches hair before it reaches the pipe, preventing slow drains and blockages.
What cement do I use on the ABS base?
Use cement suitable for ABS, or a transition cement if connecting to PVC.
Should the grate sit level with the tile?
Slightly below the finished tile so water runs in.
